Google Invests $4 Billion to Construct an Entergy-Powered Data Centre in Arkansas

Google is investing several billions of dollars in the State of Arkansas to help build a new data centre in West Memphis. In the area, this new data centre will generate thousands of construction jobs in addition to hundreds of new operations employments.
President of Alphabet and Google, Ruth Porat, highlighted that AI and its energy requirements will be crucial for advancements in the century, with efforts aimed at ensuring affordability and job creation within the AI-driven economy.
Interestingly, Google is developing an advanced data centre campus in West Memphis, spanning over 1,000 acres, which will feature a data centre facility, office buildings, a substation facility, and additional infrastructure.
West Memphis's Landmark Investment
Governor Sanders highlighted Google’s significant investment in West Memphis as a major endorsement of his administration's efforts to enhance Arkansas' energy capacity, workforce investment, and regulatory efficiency, creating a favourable environment for business innovation and growth in the state's economy.
Notably, company executives, state officials, and local leaders celebrated the announcement of a new Google data centre campus, emphasizing its significance for the expansion of the company's AI initiatives.
Moreover, Clint O’Neal, executive director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, announced the arrival of Google’s new data centre campus in Arkansas, pointing out its potential to enhance Google’s search and AI capabilities while benefiting the local economy. He hailed the project as a significant achievement for both Arkansas and West Memphis, thanking Entergy Arkansas for their contributions.
Besides, Entergy Arkansas contributed to fulfilling the electrical demands for the project, while Google will finance all energy expenses for the West Memphis facility and enhance its solar energy and battery storage capabilities.

Google & Entergy Arkansas Collaboration
Laura Landreaux, CEO of Entergy Arkansas, described the partnership with Google as crucial for the state's economic growth. She underlined the company's dedication to supplying power for the facility and fostering future state development, while stressing the significance of collaborations with Google and AEDC for ensuring lasting benefits for the state, customers, and communities.
Under Governor Sanders, the Arkansas General Assembly enacted the Arkansas IMPACT legislation in 2025, which includes the Generating Arkansas Jobs Act of 2025 allowing utility investments, and Act 548 granting sales and use tax exemptions for data centres. The IMPACT initiative also reduced permitting times for new energy projects from 12 to 18 months to six months.
Furthermore, West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon expressed pride in Google's investment in the city, emphasizing the project's significance for the local economy and future opportunities. He highlighted the importance of this development as a major victory for West Memphis and its residents.
