The CEO of the UAE Presidential Court's foreign relations office, Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, has revealed that the UAE is creating the first ChatGPT tool for the agriculture sector in history.
Notably, the UAE Pavilion at COP29 announced its commitment to technology, teamwork, and data in driving global energy transition and decarbonisation, particularly through hydrogen development and innovative agriculture.
UAE's Innovation Commitment: The “CHAG” Project
The UAE is developing the first ChatGPT tool for the agricultural community in history during the “In Partnering to Create AI-based Public Goods for One Billion+ Smallholders” discussion.
“CHAG” (Chat + Ag), a completely accessible AI model developed by UAE's exponential curve, uses over 50 years of research data to transform farmers' lives, especially in challenging climatic conditions.
Almheiri is also a member of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, she participated in a panel with AIM for Scale, a UAE-Gates Foundation partnership discussing how farmers are using technology to make informed decisions.
Moreover, Abu Dhabi University's EHS Assistant Professor, Dr. Rahaf Ajaj, praised the “CHAG” initiative for its innovation and sustainability in addressing climate change and food security.
ESG & Sustainability Strategist Nahal Nabil also discussed how “CHAG” transforms agriculture with real-time insights.
Further, the World Meteorological Organisation is using AI to transform general forecasts into actionable information for farmers, according to Secretary-General Celeste Saulo.
Remarkably, Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, CEO of UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), initiated a session on scaling carbon footprint reduction for international sustainable finance implications.
Besides, Fanny Modin, Head of Business Development at Seagrass-E.ON, highlighted UAE's leadership in carbon markets and the ALTERRA fund as a significant game-changer in green economic growth.

AI as a Tool for Emissions Reduction
The Zayed Sustainability Prize winners demonstrated in Tech and Social Innovation for Achieving Global Climate and Sustainable Development Targets how start-up ideas may use technology to advance global climate and development goals.
Sebastian Groh, CEO of SOLShare, highlighted the challenge of integrating decentralised and centralised solutions at scale, stating that the most prevalent challenge is policy.
“Taking on the sustainable energy and tech theme, Prize Judge and renowned French explorer, Bertrand Piccard outlined his goal to circle the world in a hydrogen-powered aircraft. “Hydrogen will come for aviation,” he added.
Nadia Rouchdy, head of climate at Emirates Nature-WWF, stated that decarbonisation in the UAE will take time and requires good data, noting that technology, collaboration, and data are crucial for success.
UAE-based companies are utilising AI to address emissions, build capacity, and engage with suppliers on climate. COP28's contribution to integrating health, nature, and climate was significant.
Progress and Upcoming Actions
A session on AI's impact on food systems innovation highlighted its potential to enhance agricultural production and food resilience.
Another session, on Advancing the Grid Through Innovation, discussed the collaboration between TAQA and the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance to transform global power grids for Net Zero by 2050.
The sessions Advancing the UAE National MRV-Transparency System: Progress and Next Steps introduced a critical instrument for monitoring GHG emissions and air quality through climate reporting.
Ultimately, Masdar and Mohamed bin Zayed University of AI recognised AI's revolutionary significance in the energy transition in their Changemaker Majlis, Harnessing AI to Accelerate the Energy Transition.
