In an interview with NBC's Tom Llamas, President Donald Trump discussed key issues of his second term and outlined future plans for immigration, the economy, foreign policy, artificial intelligence, and the political climate in 2028.
After disagreements with officials in Minneapolis, Trump stated he wants local cooperation but added that he plans to extend his immigration crackdown into five more cities.
Following two deadly shootings by federal officials in January, the city has turned into a political hot spot.
Trump acknowledged that recent incidents revealed the need for a “softer touch” in operations, while emphasising that the focus remains on “really bad criminals.”
Moreover, the debate within his administration continues between his base's demand for mass deportations and moderate Republicans' preference for targeting violent offenders. Despite legal challenges, Trump claims that agents are focusing on the “worst of the worst.”
Trump defended his economic record amid ongoing public concern about inflation, attributing the issue to the Biden administration. He claimed that tariffs and foreign investment bolster the economy and forecasted a slowdown in price increases, reiterating that he inherited “the worst inflation in the history of our country.”
Likewise, he is considering $2,000 tariff rebate checks but did not make a commitment. He criticized Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for slow interest rate cuts and expressed that his preferred successor, Kevin Warsh, would share his views.
In response to Joe Rogan's comparison of ICE methods to the Gestapo, Trump called Rogan a “great guy” and mentioned that they had recently spoken. He praised Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for her contributions to border enforcement while attributing the criticism to problems with public relations rather than policy.

Trump stated he is refraining from involvement in the Warner Bros. Discovery–Netflix merger decision, leaving it to the Justice Department, while both parties engage in significant lobbying efforts.
Besides, Trump maintains a positive outlook on artificial intelligence, forecasting net job creation and advancements in medicine, military, and the economy. He admits to not using AI tools like ChatGPT but claims to grasp their significance.
He minimised concerns about job displacement by comparing them to previous concerns about the internet and technology.
Citing allegations of Iran's attempts to resume its nuclear programme, Trump cautioned Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei to be “very worried” about potential U.S. actions.
He stated that high-level U.S.-Iran talks in Oman will center on nuclear issues, and that the United States is prepared to send out bombers if needed.
Trump clarified his earlier remarks about “nationalising” elections, saying he was only talking about “extremely corrupt” places like Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Detroit. He downplayed the conspiracy theories he has posted online, saying he has “retruthed” them without necessarily believing in them, and he attacked Democrats for opposing voting ID laws, saying it was to enable cheating.
In an apparent attempt to position himself as a formidable 2028 ticket, Trump praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance as competent. He did not name a favoured successor, but he did say he might support someone in the primaries.
Trump declined to provide a definitive answer regarding remaining president beyond January 2029, calling the scenario “interesting” while leaning into ambiguity.
Furthermore, Trump addressed his lawsuits against the IRS and federal government, pledging to donate any winnings to charity, and defended his right to seek damages while overseeing the relevant agencies.
In short and curly, a White House ballroom and a colossal arch at the gateway to Washington, D.C., which is meant to surpass the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, were among the new construction projects that Trump announced. These programmes, he said, are an attempt to bring back the nation's “glamour,” “prestige,” and “beauty.”
